Elk River <br /> Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING <br /> TO: FROM: <br /> ERMU Commission Dave Ninow—Water Superintendent <br /> MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: <br /> September 10, 2019 6.1e <br /> SUBJECT: <br /> Staff Update <br /> ACTION REQUESTED: <br /> None <br /> DISCUSSION: <br /> • Delivered 17 new water meters. <br /> • Sealed the water meter, installed encoder receiver transmitter, and took curb stop ties <br /> from 16 water services. <br /> • Completed 15 BACTI/Total Chlorine Residual Samples <br /> o All confirmed negative for Coliform Bacteria. <br /> o Bacteriological/Disinfectant Residual Monthly Report submitted to the MDH <br /> • Completed 22 routine fluoride samples <br /> o All samples met MDH standards. <br /> o Submitted MDH Fluoride Report <br /> • Completed two Total Trihalomethanes and Haloacetic Acids (THM/HAAS) samples for <br /> the MDH. <br /> • The first phase of the annual water system leak detection survey is complete.There <br /> were six areas identified as having potential water leaks. The next step is to locate the <br /> source of these possible leaks and make the necessary repairs. <br /> • On August 21, Metro Utilities lowered a section of the water main under School Street <br /> to allow room for the new storm sewer required for the new Multipurpose Facility. The <br /> water department worked with city staff to coordinate and notify customers before <br /> shutting off the water main from Proctor Avenue to Jackson Avenue. The water was off <br /> for less than three hours. <br /> • The water operators have been locating and exercising the valves located in the 2021 <br /> street project areas. We are doing this ahead of schedule to allow time to repair any <br /> valves before the projects begin. <br /> • During the demolition of the old ice arena, a live 1.5 inch copper water service was <br /> found that we had no record of.The demolition work had to be delayed until the <br /> unknown water service could be shut off. Water department staff helped find the <br /> connection point to the water main, then shut the line off and disconnected it from the <br /> water main.
