<br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Elk River Village Council of the Village <br />of Elk River, Minn., was called to order by Mayor Bartelt on June 1, 197', in <br />the Council Room of the Village Office Building at 7 :.30 pm, members were present <br />as follows: Mayor Bartelt, Councilmen Hudson, Syring, Micheau and Konop. <br /> <br />The minutes of the May 18, 1970 meetiM were read. No additions or corrections. <br /> <br /><~ <br />. ) <br /> <br />Ernie Thielke, Liquor Store Manager was present and asked for a ,salary increase to <br />$9M.eOper month. Discussion followed on Leo Wettstein missing too much work <br />at the liquor store becauSe of illness. Suggested that he should have ,a return to <br />work sJJ.p from ,the doctor. Thielke to contact tn.e Union Representative about this <br />problem. Also discussed was the problem that the employees are evidently tiaking <br />advantage of the sick leave agreement. <br /> <br />Harry Dreissig and the Anoka Fire Chief were Present and they reported that the <br />2% Firemens Aid is based on population and assessed valuation and to increase this <br />aid to our rightful share we must establish fire boundaries. Dreissig will work <br />. on., establishing our fire boundaries. <br /> <br />Moved. by Councilman Hudson and seconded by Councilman Micheau, authorizing expend- <br />itures up to $.3IO.J0 towards purchase of firemens boots and coats. Motion unaminii <br />iously carried. <br /> <br />A letter was presented from the SUrf Aces Water Ski Club asking for permission to <br />use the facilities at Llj,ke Orono for the annual Minnesota State Water Ski Tournam€!lt <br />on August 14, 15, and 10, 1970. Moved by Councilman Syring and seconded by Council- <br />man Hudson, granting permission to the Surf Aces water Ski Club to use the facilities <br />at Orono Park for their tournament. as outlined in their letter.. Motion unam. Carried. <br /> <br />Moved by Councilman Hu.dson and seconded by Councilman SYring, granting permission <br />to Northwestern Bell. Telephone Co, to place buried conduit on 4th Street between <br />Jackson Avenue and Gates Avenue and on Gates Avenue between 4th Street and County <br />Road #12. Mot-ion unaminously carried. <br /> <br />c=> <br /> <br />. <br />A notice of hearing from the Public Service Commission was presented regarding a <br />petition of the Sherburne County Board of Commissiibners requesti.ng the Public <br />Service Commission to investigate into conditions 8urronding the Highway Gqade <br />Gras sing and the Burlington Northern railroad tracks at CSAH #12 in Elk River in <br />regards to the placement of automatic Crossing Signals. Agreeable that a member <br />or members of the council should attend this hearing. <br /> <br />Moved by Councilman Hudson and seconded by Councilman Micheau, authorizing Council- <br />man Syring to set upa program of purchasing a sign, fee box and boat trailer stickers <br />for the launching facility at the foot of York Avenue. Fees established to be $.3." <br />per year for residential stickers and il.e@ per launching for non-residents. Motion <br />unaminously carr.ied..r <br /> <br />Public Assistance Applications were reviewed from applicants Mrs. Jean Balfanz and <br />John Lewandowski. <br /> <br />Moved by Councilman Syring and seconded by Councilman Konop, authorizing the Welfare <br />Committee to honor the two claims for immediate needs and seek reimbursement from the <br />responsi ble units. Motion unaminously carried. <br /> <br />A letter from North Central Gas Co., was presented with a copy of a new rate schedule <br />for the village and a request that the village act upon the rate adjustment by ) <br />ordinance. Referred to the Village Attorney for a ruling. '_/ <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Earl Hohlen reported that there has been four different cases where minors have been <br />sold iBtoxicating beveragesin the offsale department of the liquor store. Discussion <br />followed and referred to the Liquor Committee for further hardling. <br />
