Discussion on Community Center

Pat Klaers briefly summarized the conclusions of the 1/21/91 meeting.
Zack Johnson agreed with the Council's conclusions. It was
reaffirmed that the City should continue to pursue a site for the
future community center. It was also noted that the efforts of the
Community Center Task Force should be acknowledged.

Mayor Tralle indicated that the City Council had three sites in mind
for City Hall and Police Department facilities and asked for Zack' s
comments on each of these sites.

Zack indicated that the cemetery site was the only one that had
enough space to offer a campus setting; however, he had questions
regarding police accessibility and compatibility with the surrounding
neighborhoods. Regarding the ri verbanksi te, he liked the downtown
location; however, he again had questions regarding the police
department. He indicated that this site offered a lot of opportunities
but was expensive.

Councilmember Schuldt questioned whether the E & 0 Tool site, which the
Ci ty is currently in the process of negotiating for, would be an
appropriate spot and large enough to accommodate the community center.
