Four skating rinks are
located within neighborhood parks:Trott Brook Farms Park,Kliever Lake Fields,West Oaks Park and
Riverplace Park. These rinks are smaller in size and do not contain boards for boot or stick hockey or
warming hour facilities;however goals are provided at each facility and snow is banked to provide a
partial backstop.
One skating rink facility located in Lions John Weicht Park consists of an open skate area and a rink
partially enclosed with boards on the ends. This partially enclosed rink has nets provided,is lighted and
the city rents a warming house trailer which is staffed with a warming house attendant. It was also
discussed at the February meeting that this rink also saw attendance drop this season.
Staff has indicated that Trott Brook Farms Park received little to no usage during the rink's short season.
If staff and the commission decide to close any of the rinks,it might be prudent to send out public
notices before the action is pursued.
As requested by Commission Chair Dave Anderson staff did receive probable construction costs for an
outdoor refrigerated skating facility.
Financial Impact
None at this time
Attachments
• Construction Costs for Outdoor Refrigerated Skating Facility
• Outdoor Ice Rink Expenditures
POWERED It
NATURE
