Cal Portner, City Administrator
Houlton Conservation Area Reviewed by
Action Requested
Adopt,by motion, a resolution acknowledging Eric Toth for his donation to the William H. Houlton
Conservation Area.
Background/Discussion
The winning submission for the Houlton naming contest came from a Committee Member who wishes
to be anonymous and requested that the $100 prize money be donated to the contestant whose submitted
name most closely matches the winning name. This is also outlined as one of the contest rules. The
closely-matched submission is "William H. Houlton Nature Preserve" from Eric Toth.
Eric Toth requested at the June Parks and Recreation Commission meeting that the $100 cash prize be
donated back to the William H. Houlton Conservation Area for improvements.
City Council did approve on April 6, 2015, a donation of$1,000 from Mike Ethen for improvements to
the Houlton farm property of which $100 would be used as a prize for the winner of the naming contest.
Pursuant to Minnesota Statute 465.03,resolutions acknowledging contributions must be adopted by a
four-fifths vote.
Financial Impact
None required with the donation. A separate account in the Park Improvement Fund has been set up to
track donations specifically for the William H. Houlton Conservation Area.
Attachments
■ Resolution Acknowledging Donation
POWERED 6T
Template Updoted 4/14 INAWRE1
