ity of

River

MEMORANDUM

Item #5.

TO:

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

Mayor & City Council

Pat Klaers, City Administrat~~
January 24, 2000

Joint Meeting with City Council/School Board

School Board Chair Mark Strater has requested that Item #5.4., Community
Center Discussion, be moved to follow Item #5.1.

5.1. Community Recreation Organization

Last year there was a great deal of discussion about possible changes
with the Community Recreation organization. After an extensive
evaluation of options and alternatives, the end result was that there
were no substantial changes in how the organization operates. Michele
Bergh was promoted to the program manager position and Community
Recreation Director Jeff Asfahl was not replaced. Additional part time
recreation programming staff will be added as necessary along with
seasonal staff, especially in the summer, to run the program.

The Community Recreation organization has moved from the basement
of the Community Education office to an Elk River city facility at the
northeast corner of Main Street and Highway 169. All the members of
the Community Recreation organization from last year are still
members in 2000, and no change is expected for the foreseeable future.
The most questionable member of the organization remains the City of
Otsego and their uncertainty is based on concerns over the value of
services received versus its contribution into the budget.

13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
