ITEM 19a. Elk River Park and Recreation Commission Community Recreation Update - March 10, 1999 • - Sleigh Ride Update: Took place Saturday 2/13 from 2 - 4 pm. We served approx. 35 families. Due to the lack of snow cover we had to modify the route which unfortunately did not allow us to feature any of the trails in Woodlands. Favorable comments were passed along from the participants in hopes that we will continue to offer this event. - Summer ' 99 program planning: At last months meeting the commission reviewed a typical program menu and suggested that we consider developing more opportunities in other park settings throughout the city. Lana had agreed to work with program staff on developing this concept. Planning is underway. I am also hoping to organize an entertainment event or two in conjunction with the Rivers Edge downtown group at the park site downtown this Summer. - Joint Planning process update: Thanks to John and Duane for their participation on Monday March 1st. Please find enclosed a summary of the work that was completed that evening. I appreciate your involvement - 1998 Annual Report: A copy is enclosed with this packet for your review. I will very briefly review the report at your meeting. • - Youthbound: In the past couple of months we have had good luck with involving the students with planning, etc. Two critical things we have learned from this are that they wish to change the name and to "lose" the arcade games and create more space for lounging, concerts, etc. On February 26th we had a concert with three local bands performing to a packed house of approx. 140. Another similar event with local bands is being planned for March 26th. We are seeking couches, chairs & end / coffee tables for more lounging. If you know of any sources please let me know.
