ITEM / 5. <br />vet <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Economic Development Authority <br />CC: EDA Marketing Committee <br />FROM: Catherine Mehelich, Director of Economic Developmentl~ <br />DATE: September I I, 2006 <br />SUBJECT: Consider Adoption of 2007-2009 Strategic Industrial Marketing <br />Plan <br />Attachments <br />• Strategic Industrial Marketing Plan, September 11, 2006. <br />Background <br />The Strategic Industrial Marketing Plan provides a framework fox the EDA to work within <br />and focuses staff energies on those priority areas important to generate successful results <br />from the marketing efforts. The first Strategic Industrial Marketing Plan was the 2000-2002 <br />Plan, developed by Duckor & Associates, the EDA Marketing Committee and Economic <br />Development staff. To serve as an update to the Plan, the 2000-2002 Assessment and 2002- <br />2004 Action Plan was also developed by Duckor & Associates the EDA Marketing <br />Committee and Economic Development staff. <br />In January, an update of the plan was identified by the EDA as one of its priority goals and <br />projects for 2006. In June the EDA approved the Marketing Committee's recotnmendation <br />to contract with Wolf Marketing & Media for the assessment and update of the EDA's <br />Strategic Industrial Marketing Plan. <br />The Marketing Committee met twice to discuss expectations fox the plan, provide input on <br />the research information, and direction on the revised strategic objectives for the 2007-2009 <br />Plan, as summarized in the meeting minutes (Exhibit A & B of the Plan). <br />Summary of the 2007-2009 Action Plan <br />Based on the xeseareh and feedback from the Marketing Committee, the following revised <br />strategic objectives axe proposed fox 2007-2009: <br />• Continue to position Elk River as "The Light Industrial Hub of the Northwest Metro" <br />• Attract industrial development projects that have quality employment base and <br />significant market value. <br />• Drive the acquisition and marketing of additional land for industrial development <br />
