Elk River, MN 55330 RE: Elk River Arena Renovation and Expansion Dear Mr. Czech, SJA Architects is pleased to submit this proposal letter and attachments related to architectural Preliminary- Design Services for the Elk River Arena Renovation and Expansion. SJA Architects, working with a diverse design team, has just completed the $62m 6700 seat Amsoil Arena at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center, and is poised to assist the City of Elk River and the other potential project stakeholders in studying options and costs of those options with respect to renovating and expanding your current arena complex. SJA successfully led the diverse Design Team, along with Mortenson directing the Construction Team, to complete the Amsoil Arena project on time and on budget, with LEED Gold certification in process. I was the Project Manager on the Amsoil Arena project, and was intimately involved in every phase of the project, from initial design studies through occupancy of the facility. Based on my understanding of options being considered, the School District may also be involved in the project in one capacity or another and potentially other parties also. We welcome the opportunity to discuss and analyze all of the thoughts that are currently on the table, or those ideas that will come up as additional potentially viable options. If need be in the planning process, we could certainly schedule a large group Charrette, or address the issues in a smaller group setting, as you see fit. I have included a brochure on our Charrette process, for your review. At this point SJA is not committing to or proposing any specific engineering consultants, and likely would not bring in the same team we used on the Amsoil Arena, due to scale of the project. However, we will fully leverage the considerable experiences we gained during the Amsoil Arena design and construction process, and as importantly, the shake-out process based on actual operations of the new facility. We have current and applicable state-of-art experience to lend to the Elk River Arena project, and can assist the City in taking advantage of the revenue generation options the expanded arena may offer. We understand the City of Elk River is intending to use Commercial Refrigeration as the Ice Consultant on your project. Mark Rodrigo, and their engineer-of-choice Stevens Engineers, both worked with SJA on the Amsoil Arena. The knowledge and experience that the Commercial Refrigeration / Stevens Team brought to the project was considerable; you are definitely making a very good choice by selecting those companies.
