ELK RIVER LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES <br />Robert Jones, Chair <br />Eleanor Holm, Vice Chair <br />Geraldine Graham, Secretary <br />Leslie Anderson <br />Mike Hangaard <br />Also present: Mick Stoffers, <br />present <br />present <br />present <br />present <br />present <br />Librarian; Verne Oleksowicz, GRRL <br />April 25, 2000 <br />Meeting called to order at 6:35pm by Robert Jones. <br />It was determined that a Quorum was present. <br />Action re: Minutes of March 28, 2000 meeting: A motion was made by Holm and seconded <br />by Anderson to approve minutes of March 28, 2000 meeting. Approved unanimously. (Note: <br />Nov. 23, 1999 minutes had been postponed and were not acted upon on 4/25/00.) <br />Treasurer's Report: Hangaard made a motion, seconded by Holm, to accept Treasurer's <br />report of March 31, 2000. Approved unanimously. <br />Librarian's report by Mick Stoffers: <br />Old Business: Clock has been repaired and is back in service at the front desk. <br />Address numbers have been installed on the outside sign in front of building. This <br />completes all repairs required by the fire code inspection. Annual report was presented to <br />the City Council on April 24`h. Anew format was used, which included a video presentation <br />and overall summary by Pat Klaers, City Manager. <br />New Business: Friends of the Library Book Sale generated $562, which will be used to <br />purchase needed items for the library. Anderson suggested the Library Board officially <br />thank the Friends of the Library at an upcoming meeting of the Friends. Stoffers will make <br />contact with the Friends to schedule time on their agenda for an upcoming meeting. <br />The Microfilm reader/printer had a broken corona wire; repair costs were $165. <br />Hangaard suggested that the librarian investigate whether the Buffalo Library, which has <br />similar microfilm reader/printer, would be interested in going together to purchase a <br />maintenance contract for the machines, with the potential of negotiating a better price from <br />a provider. Stoffers will make contact with the Buffalo Library and some providers to <br />comparison shop. Hangaard made a motion, seconded by Anderson, that the librarian seek <br />out a provider for an annual maintenance contract on the microfilm reader/printer, with the <br />authority to enter into such an agreement up to an annual cost of $600. Approved <br />unanimously. <br />The edging on a countertop is in need of repair. Holm made a motion, seconded by <br />Hangaard, that the librarian get the edging repaired. <br />A window was broken due to vandalism; repair costs of $600+ were covered by <br />insurance. <br />The city budget for next year will be developed during June and July, using past actual <br />expenses and projected growth as guides for developing the 2001 budget. Stoffers asked <br />the Library Board to think about any concerns it may have for the future, which may need to <br />be in next year's budget. Jones asked whether the roof needs work. Stoffers said that its <br />current drainage system is working well and no major roof work is anticipated for next year. <br />Stoffers mentioned one possible repair may be the metal plate between window panes; she <br />asked the Board to examine and make recommendation. <br />Stoffers reported that City Manager, Pat Klaers, has instructed city staff to be alert for <br />any real estate that may come up for sale adjacent to the library.
