ELK RIVER LIBRARY BOARD M Eleanor Holm, Chair Leslie Anderson, Vice Chair Geraldine Graham, Secretary Joanne Jacobs Mike Hangaard I N UTES present present present present absent July 24, 2007 Also Present: Mick Stoffers, Librarian Vern Oleksowicz, GRRL Meeting was called to order at 6:40pm by Eleanor Holm. It was determined that a Quorum was present. The agenda was adopted. Secretary's report: Anderson moved to amend minutes of June 26, 2001 to revise as follows: "Minutes for March were tabled until the next meeting. There were no minutes for the months of April and May because those meeting were not conducted due to lack of a quorum." Also to strike the sentence: "Geraldine Graham, Secretary, was absent in June and had not provided minutes for May in advance of the meeting." Anderson moved and Jacobs seconded a motion to approve the amended minutes of June 26, 2001. Passed unanimously. Minutes from March 27, 2001 were tabled until the next meeting. Treasurer's report: In a question about what constitutes the "Programming" line item in the budget, Stoffers explained that GRRL covers some of the cost of providing outside speakers and programs that come to the library, and that the City of Elk River provides additional funding so that more frequent programs can be held. These programs include storytelling and related children's activities, speakers for adult audiences, and new in 2001, the "Last Chapter' club for youth in grades 6-12. This has been very successful, attracting approximately 18 youth at each session. Graham moved and Holm seconded a motion to approve the Treasurer's report. Passed unanimously. Librarian's report: Stoffers welcomed new member Joanne Jacobs to the board. As requested by the board at previous meeting, Graham has sent a written letter to board member Mike Hangaard to inquire about his status on the board and ask him to indicate whether he will be able to resume attending board meetings. Graham reported that she spoke with Hangaard on the phone also, and that he made a verbal resignation due to a conflict in his work schedule. Stoffers will notify the City Administrator about the open position and begin the process to fill it. Stoffers reported the following: ,~ Motion detector lights will be installed at the front and rear entrances. Alight fixture in the furnace room has become dysfunctional and will be replaced. • The new draperies and shades have been installed in the community room and the reading area. • Painting of exterior window trim will begin at the end of July. The project will include power washing and staining two wood fences. Two new video towers have been purchased, thanks to a charitable gift from the Elk River American Legion.
