Item 4.1. «er MEMORANDUM TO: City Council FROM: Chris Leeseberg, Park Planner-Planner DATE: June 21, 2010 SUBJECT: Address Change I understand that Mr. Krekelberg will be at the Council meeting to discuss a recent action of the Address Committee to change his address. Below is background information on this item. The purpose of an address is to locate a premises or property as quickly and efficiently as possible. This is particularly important during an emergency. The first key is the street name. The name tells us (or should) which road a location is on and would therefore be accessed from. The second key is the actual address, the building numbers. The numbers tell us where specifically on a given street a building is located. The two work together in a grid format. This particular address issue was brought to the City's attention by Sherburne County. On December 14, 2009 the City mailed an initial contact letter to Mr. & Mrs. Krekelberg of the proposed address change. The letter invited them to meet with the Address Committee if they had any questions or concerns. Mr. Krekelberg contacted me stating he did not want his address changed and wanted to meet He met with the Committee and expressed his concerns. The Committee talked him through the process and reasoning of why we make the changes. Early in that meeting he wanted to ask the Council to appeal the decision, but by the end of the meeting he accepted it being changed. He later called stating he changed his mind and again wanted to discuss it with the Council. I spoke with Lori Johnson, City Administrator, about the issue and she asked me to have Mr. Krekelberg contact her. Mr. Krekelberg discussed with Ms. Johnson the idea of putting a sign out on Brook Road indicating his home was back there.
