After almost ten years of jointly providing services the Community Recreation board will be disbanding effective December <br />31, 2001. The staff at Community Recreation would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patronage and <br />support. We have enjoyed serving you and hope you will continue to take advantage of the recreational opportunities offered <br />by your municipality. For more information on what your municipality currently offers or will be offering, please refer to the <br />information below. <br /> <br />City of Elk River <br />The City of Elk River will continue to provide many <br />recreational opportunities that you have enjoyed in the past. <br />Watch for more information on program offerings later this <br />year in the City's recreation brochure. Also, we will provide <br />updates during this transition in the City's newsletter, The <br />Current, on ERTv channel 12, and on our web page at <br />www.ci.elk-river.mn.us. We will be exploring our <br />options during the 2002 budget process with the hopes of <br />establishing our own recreation department. This session will be lead by Bob <br />Mueller, license Landscape Architect (MN, <br />WI, SD, IA, MT, WY, KY) and Minnesota <br />State IMBA (Intemational Mountain Bike <br />Association) Representative, President of the <br />BLAST. Session is for young and old to <br />learn about the anatomy of Mountain bike <br />trail and the natural forces that affect the long <br />and short term use of a trail. Learn how soil, <br />Vegetation, Grade and layout of trails are all <br />critical factors in trail planning and <br />maintenance. Learn the correct way to <br />maintain a trail. The BLAST hopes to <br />educate people the right and the wrong ways <br />of designing, maintaining our trails in the <br />years to come. If you think you know what <br />you are doing on the single track you will be <br />surprised on what you will learn and why <br />most trail designs, re-designs and <br /> <br />construction procedures fail. John Sandberg and <br />members of his Penn Cycle race team and <br />the BLAST will instruct beginner-advanced <br />riders wanting to know more about the sport <br />and the skills of riding. We will divide <br />groups on ability. Groups will focus on <br />learning and improving their own riding <br />skills. Young and old are encouraged to <br />attend. Whether you are a beginner rider just <br />starting off or an advanced racer, you will <br />learn and improve your skills.
