Before it was a fully developed first ring
suburb, New Brighton was a free standing city.

The Parks and Recreation Department oversees the Family Service Center, 11
parks, park maintenance, forestry, 9 hole golf course and driving range. The
facilities include softball fields, tennis courts, ice finks, volleyball courts and
picnic pavilions. Programs include senior, adult and youth athletics, senior
citizen clubs, adaptive clubs, summer playground program, adult trips, fitness
training, teen night and special events.

THE PROJECT

The New Brighton Family Service Center is located on the comer of 10th Street
Northwest and Old Highway 8 in the City of New Brighton, MN. The 70,000
square foot state-of-the-art facility was funded through a general property tax
levy. The levies will average $400,000 per year with the final levy being
collected in 2008. The operation costs are paid .through membership fees, room
rentals and daily passes. The total cost for the construction of the facility was
$5.2 million or $70 per square foot. Of the $5.2 million, $800,000 was funded by
Mounds View School District #621. The planning phase began in 1993,
construction started in April 1994 and the doors were opened for business in
November 1994.

CITY OF
NEW BRIGHTON
