728
! C ih]ii. UllityEduc tion
,~*~ ~230 NW School Street Elk River, Minnesota · 5~330-2506 * [612) 241-3520

18 July 2001

To: Mayor Klinzing & City Council Members
RFrom. :.Charl!e Blesener, Administrator of Communi~"ducation
e: ~nrormation on examples of jointly planned facilities

Enclosed with this memo is information on a few facility projects that have been completed in
Minnesota in the past few years which are examples of cooperative ventures between school
districts, municipalities and/or municipal HRA's, and in some cases, additional partners. Some of this
information may have previously been shared with the council at one of the joint meetings with the
school board, but I wanted to be sure you had it in advance of your July 23, 2001 meeting.
As a follow-up to the joint City Council/School Board meeting of April 30, 2001, I will be in
attendance at your meeting on July 23. My intention is to update the council on the planned
Family/Art Center, including preliminary concepts about the facility itself, what programs are expected
to be housed there, community spaces in the facility, how the arts component will be incorporated,
funding mechanisms and the approximate timeline for the facility. In addition, I will invite the City of
Elk River to consider the planned Family/Ad Center as a viable building to also accommodate future
municipal needs such as large meeting spaces, space for senior programming, etc. Finally I will also
ask the City of Elk River to assist us in securing a suitable site in Elk River for the facility.
I look forward to beginning a dialogue with you on the 23rd that I hope will result in a quality
community facility in Elk River.

Serving the communities of:
Elk River e Otsego · Rogers · Zimmerman · Hassan · Livonia · Dayton · Ramsey · Big Lake Township · Frankfort · Burns ° Albertville
