Education and Recreation Independent School District 728 ser~-es all of Elk Ri~-er and several surrounding communities. Elk Ri~rer is the home to tour elementary schools, t<vo middle schools, a high school and an area learning center. ~s an alternati~-e to public schools in the Elk Ri~-er ~uea, families maw also choose from fire pri~-ate/parochial schools and a charter school. ISD 728 also has a continuing education program that sei-~-es pre-school through senior citizens. The City of Elk Ri~Ter has otiTer -10 parks totaling otiTer 800 acres. There are a ~ariet< of neighborhood and communit< parks including indoor facilities and open shelters a~-ailable for rent. Elk Ri~-er otters a magnitude of acti~Tities a~-ailable in the parks including open green space, pla~-ground equipment, basketball and tennis courts, baseball, softball and soccer fields, pared and unpa~-ed «%alking trails, ice skating, sledding, skate park, disc golf, mountain bike and pa~Ted bike trails, dog park, cross-country- skiing, fishing, swimming, ~Tolleirball, boat launch and a splash fountain. Our Ri~Ters Edge Commons park hosts weekhr outdoor concerts during the summer that are a fa~rorite of~oung and old alike! The City of Elk Rimier also pro~-ides the community with a 9-hole golf course, ice arena, two senior acti~it<- centers and a brand new library. The Council is assisted big the Planning Commission, Economic Development ~uthorit~, EnergS~ Cit<~ Commission, Heritage Presei-~-ation Commission, Housing and Rede~-elopment ~uthorit~, Ice arena Commission, Librar~r Board, and Parks and Recreation Commission. City Departments include administration, Finance, Community Development, Public ~,rorks, Police, Fire, and Parks and Recreation. The Cit<r works cooperati~-e1~- with Elk RitiTer Municipal Utilities ~~rhich is managed bar the Elk Ri~-er utilities Commission.
