The new <br />permit fee schedule with this code significantly increased building permit <br />costs. The Council decided to spread this increased cost out over two years. <br />They adopted the new fee schedule, but reduced the plan check fee from 65% <br />to 35% of the building permit price until 1997. <br /> <br />The following example using a house valued at $100,000 illustrates the <br />increase: <br /> <br />Year Permit & Increase <br /> plan check <br /> <br />1995 $1,105.50' <br />1996 $1,258.25' <br /> <br />1997 $1,526.75' <br /> <br />+$152.75 <br /> <br />+$268.50 <br /> <br />Increase due to new fee schedule in <br />1994 UBC @ 35% plan check fee <br />Increase due to 65% plan check fee <br /> <br />*does not include Sewer Availability Charge <br /> <br />Staff is recommending the plan check fee is increased to 65% to be <br />consistent with the majority of other cities. If the council agrees, staff will <br />notify builders of the pending change. <br /> <br />Year to date, on single family and twin homes the City collected <br />approximately $65,000 of plan checks fees, charging at the rate of 35% of the <br />permit cost. At 65% of the permit cost the City would have collected <br />approximately $120,000.
