Public Power Weekly <br />~r~ k. ~ <br />::~- <br />fY~ <br />Public Power Weekly <br />APPA <br />July 27, 2009, No. 30 <br />~~ a <br />~~~~>~~~ <br />~~ trtim APPA's s~rcfi and r <br />t~ g ant prc~grartt C)EEC) <br />~~ir~ e <br />APPA, others recommend caution in regulating C?TC energy <br />commodity markets <br />Those in the Obama administration and in Congress who are working to <br />prevent excessive speculation in over-the-counter energy commodities <br />markets should be careful to avoid policies that would make energy more <br />expensive and thus hurt consumers, a broad coalition of utilities, energy <br />suppliers and businesses said in a letter to Congress. <br />The July l O letter was signed by APPA, the Edison Electric Institute, National <br />Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Large Public Power Council, <br />American Gas Association, National Association of Manufacturers and U.S. <br />Chamber of Commerce, among others. <br />"While we support the goals of the administration and the Congress to <br />improve transparency and stability in OTC derivatives markets and to prevent <br />excessive speculation, it is essential that policymakers preserve the ability of <br />companies to access critical OTC energy derivatives products and OTC <br />energy commodities markets," said the coalition.
