Utilities Commission
John Dietz
Jerry Gumphrey
Daryl Thompson
From: Troy Adams
Subject: Staff Updates -Director of Operations
Phone: 763.441.2020
Fax: 763.441.8099
Year to date, electric usage is up 1.73%. Comparing a rolling year block to a previous year
block, electric usage is up 4.11 %.
Late July, I had received word that Minnesota Power would be interested in discussing our future
wholesale power supply needs. In a preliminary discussion of generalities, Minnesota Power
would be interested in providing a 10 year all requirements or partial requirement contract
starting in 2018. In order to keep Elk River Municipal Utilities on their radar, Minnesota Power
would like a formalized request stating our mutual preliminary interest in a power contract with
the intent of revisiting the discussion in a more serious nature at a future date. Minnesota Power
currently provides power for a number of municipal utilities including: Grand Rapids, Brainerd,
Hibbing, Virginia, Two Harbors, and Grand Marais.
At the July 14th commission meeting, staff was directed to have Mark Mathison from Gray Plant
Mooty review the ERMU Employee Handbook in it's entirety while incorporating in the newly
revised policies. Mr. Mathison has been reviewing the handbook and tentatively will have his
comments for the Commission at the September meeting.
For you reading, please find the following enclosures:
MMUA Resource
APPA Public Power Weekly 7-27-2009
