<br />A.( -'\( <br />( i/ <br /> <br />· Jl}{ River TO: <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />Councilmember Dietz <br /> <br />Phil Hals, Street/Park Superintendent <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />March 20, 1995 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Lion's Park Maintenance Issues <br /> <br />In 1993 and 1994, City Street/Park staff mowed the Lion's Park an average of <br />18 times at an annual cost of $4,914; $1,890 for labor, and $3,024 for <br />equipment, calculated at $12.00 per hour, based on a mower cost of $24,000 <br />depreciated over six years, plus fuel and repairs. <br /> <br />The other major contributions by the City for Lion's Park development not <br />counting the LAWCON Grant have been: <br /> <br />Ice rink development <br />Ice rink flooding <br />Soil corrections for basketball courts <br />Soil corrections for bandshell <br />Soil corrections for Lion's Shelter 5 <br /> <br />The sliding hill has been constructed under City supervision by contractors <br />disposing of material from various projects without direct cost to the City. <br /> <br />Enclosed you will find two plans of Lion's Park. Plan number 1 shows areas <br />of the park that are too wet to mow, and areas that are wet but mowable. <br />Plan number 2 shows a proposed waterway system that we feel would <br />eliminate the water problem. The cost would be an estimated $2,000 for <br />dozer rental plus another $2,000 for culverts, grass seed, and geotextile <br />fabric. <br /> <br />13065 Orono Parkway · P.O. Box 490.
