Rivers Edge Meeting Minutes Wednesday April S, 2009 <br />Meeting was called to order at 8AM in Bluffs Community Room. Present were Fred, Jim, <br />Dave Raymond, Donna, Tony, Wendy, Roger, Deb Rydberg, Annie and Rebecca Haug <br />Treasurer's Report: Jim reported that the April Balance was $2,941.71. <br />Secretary's Report: January Minutes were accepted as written. <br />Rebecca Haug, the City of Elk River's Environmental Administrator made a presentation <br />to us about conserving energy. She said that rebates are available for homes and <br />businesses purchasing new energy efficient appliances and lighting. <br />www.elkriverutilities.com Vance Zehringer at 635-1330 can help with Business Energy <br />Audits. <br />Elk River Energy City's new program is Project Conserve. Thirty families were selected <br />to participate in a pilot project to extablish moey saving techniques regarding energy, <br />solid waste and transportaion through "reduction." Project Conserves 5 year goal is to <br />reduce electric use by 20% and gas use by 5%. Grants have gone to homeowners using <br />alternative energy sources. Eventually Energy City would like to include businesses in <br />Project Conserve. <br />Currently people come from all over the world to visit the landfill gas electric generating <br />plant located at the Elk River Landfill and also Riverview Farm which turns cow manure <br />into energy. <br />Elk River is holding their annual Energy Exp Saturday, April 18th <br />Old Business: <br />ArtSoup: Dave Raymond from the Arts Alliance reported that The Arts Alliance will be <br />holding ArtSoup, their community art festival, in Downtown Elk River on Saturday, June <br />20. They are planning a one day event this year. It will go from 11AM to 8PM. Similar to <br />past years, there will be music and entertainment in Rivers Edge Commons Park. Jackson <br />Ave will be closed between Highway 10 and Main Street for the day. Artists Booths will <br />be put up on Jackson Ave. There will be a tent in the parking lot behind the Arts Alliance <br />Gallery with art done by area artists. The old O'Reilly building will house a juried art <br />exhibit. There will be a member artist show in the Arts Alliance Gallery. Another tent <br />will be set up by the bottom of the park and will house Community Education and other <br />community groups. Applications for Artist booths, Juried Art Show and Food Vendors <br />are on the Arts Alliance Website www.elkriverart.or~. <br />In 2007 there were 40 art vendors and several thousand visitors at Artsoup. <br />All of our downtown businesses are invited to join in. The Arts Alliance is looking for <br />businesses who can partner financially and/or with their physical presence at the event. <br />Ads will be sold for the program. Sponsorships for performances will be available. The <br />target market for this event is residents from Elk River and surrounding communities. <br />The Elk River Lions Club is working on a Medallion Hunt for ArtSoup to help promote <br />the event. <br />
