Finance Director <br />August 26, 1996 <br /> <br />MMUA Safety Compliance Program <br /> <br />Introduction <br /> <br />The Mimiesota Municipal utiiitie~ AsSoCiation is implementing a safet~ compliance' ' <br />Program offered to city governments and public utilities. Communities or association <br />members join together to make a safety group to share the costs of a Safety Coordinator. <br />The Safety Coordinator will spend two days a month in each community to provide the <br />following services: <br /> - Assist in developing and maintaining all compliance records and written <br /> programs <br /> - Keep safety manuals current <br /> ~ Plan and organize monthly safety meetings <br /> - Regularly monitor safety training requirements <br /> - Document all safety meetings and training provided <br /> - Prepare or over-see required State and Federal reports <br /> <br />Effective September 1, MMUA will be starting a Safety Compliance Prograrr~ Group <br />within our area. The Utilities Commission has already approved to participate in <br />MMUA's Safety Program. The cost for the City and the Utilities to participate in the <br />program is approximately $16,500, of which approximately $10,000 would be the City's <br />share. <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />The City's Safety Committee, which first met in February, was formed to develop <br />written city-wide safety policies and programs designed to comply with OSHA and state <br />regulations. The Committee has since drafted a written Employee Safety Manual and <br />Right-to-Know Program. In addition, the Committee has implemented a centralized <br />safety record-keeping system and initiated a job hazard assessment survey. <br /> <br />13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
