Having an understanding of regional and national trends impacting
housing, transportation and personal lifestyles can assist in the planning decisions
and shed light how the evolution of current ideas on development may be shifting.
Investigating current trends will also help underscore the need for establishing a
sound framework through the planning effort to allow for continued flexibility over
the lifespan of the master plan. The following are current trends which may have an
imapct on the i7ist Avenue FAST:
Becoming More Mobile
Many of today's young people will live in twice as many homes as their grandparents
did. This may not come as a shocking trend, but it is important to understand that
demands for housing are reaching beyond the one-time, single-family home buyer.
In the marketplace today many more buyers are looking for flexible and multifaceted
housing stock with a range of sizes, amenities and price points. Moreover, buyers
are looking for more options for renting and builders are responding with housing
products more conducive for turnover, such as apartments and rental townhomes.
A diverse housing mix and rental housing options should be considerations for the
FAST project.
^

i
