n) Notification by the plumber that the meter has been set and ready for sealing and inspection by the <br />Water Utility personnel shall be done at least 24 hours prior to final plumbing inspection by the City <br />Building Inspection Department. <br />103 WATER SERVICE REPAIRS <br />REPAIR RESPONSIBILTY <br />Maintenance or repair, of the service from and including the main stop cock to the premises remains the <br />responsibility of the property owner. <br />Water service repairs or renewals that become necessary will be made by a licensed plumber at the <br />expense of the property owner. Utility staff may provide property owner a list of licensed plumber to do <br />emergency repairs. If owner can not make repairs, water may be shut off or Water Utility may make the <br />necessary repairs and the charge for such work will be made under a special assessment against the <br />property concerned. Such assessment, including interest at the legal rate for local improvements, shall <br />be certified to the County Auditor and collected and remitted to the City in the same manner as <br />assessments for local improvements. The rights of the Elk River Municipal Utilities/City under this <br />paragraph shall be in addition to other remedial or enforcement rights provided by the City Code of <br />Ordinances or other applicable law. (Adopted April 10, 2001 by the Utilities' commission) <br />Whenever it becomes necessary to repair or replace a broken or defective water pipe running from the <br />main in the street to the meter, the said broken or defective water pipe is not of copper or cast iron <br />construction; it shall be replaced by 1" minimum Type K copper tubing or 1" O.D. SDR 11 (IPS) minimum <br />HDPE may also be used per details in Section 104. Electrical grounding system for this building shall <br />also be modified to account for non metallic water service. <br />LEAK REPAIR <br />When a leak develops on a customer's service, it shall be repaired as soon as possible. If repairs have <br />not been completed within a reasonable time as determined by the Elk River Municipal Utilities, the <br />water will be shut off. <br />104 SERVICE SIZE AND MATERIALS <br />APPROVAL <br />The size of pipe to be installed in any service shall be subject to the approval of the General Manager <br />SERVICE MATERIAL <br />Water service pipes shall be of the following materials. <br />1 inch nominal diameter-copper- Type K or 1" HDPE per details on page 10 <br />1 '/2 inch nominal diameter-copper- Type K or 1 '/z" HDPE per details on page 10 <br />2 inch nominal diameter-copper- Type K or 2" HDPE per details on page 10 <br />2 '/ inch and over nominal diameter- ductile iron- 150 Ib. Class <br />For Residential K copper construction only one coupling (flared or silver soldered only) between the <br />water service valve (curb stop) and the main valve inside the house will be allowed. For residential <br />HDPE construction, a total fused pipe system with tracer wire shall be utilized per details on page 10. <br />For Commercial /Industrial construction all pipe used in a water service shall be 1" (one inch) minimum <br />type K copper pipe or 1" O.D. minimum SDR 11 (IPS) with tracer wire HDPE. Larger than 2" shall be <br />ductile iron pipe. Only one coupling (flared or silver soldered only) between the water service valve (curb <br />stop) and the main valve inside the building is allowed on type K copper. HDPE System shall be a fused <br />system with tracer wire per details. All fire protection lines should have detector check valves. <br />Customer shall provide a suitably sized by-pass meter loop for 2" or larger meters <br />7 <br />
