As you may be aware, Anoka County developed a Comprehensive Parks and Recreation System Plan that was adopted by the County Board in 2006. A major component of that plan was the creation of a county-wide trail system which includes connections to regional and local community trails inside and outside the county. The proposed project was identified in our planning process as a valuable link to the Mississippi River Regional Trail which will provide an alternate method of transportation along the Highway 10 corridor. In addition, the proposed project will provide direct access to the state's most valued natural resource, the Mississippi River. We are very encouraged by the grant application the City of Elk River is submitting to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resource's Local Trail Connections Program. I would urge the MnDNR to consider funding this project through this grant program.
