HOST CITY MOBILE WORKSHOPS <br /> San Antonio officials are planning a series of spe- <br /> cial workshops highlighting successful programs. <br /> Re workshops will include presentations and site <br /> v o that you can experience first hand how <br /> t, / is carrying out the program and how you <br /> might adapt it to meet your community's needs. <br /> More detailed information about the Host City <br /> mobile workshops will be covered in a separate <br /> brochure that will be sent to all delegates with <br /> your registration confirmation. Preliminary pro- <br /> ~ram plans include: <br /> <br /> Casa San Antonio Trade Program <br /> The city's intemational affairs department offers <br /> NLC participants a glimpse into its marketing and <br /> outreach efforts with a Mexico booth showcasing <br /> the Casa San Antonio trade program. The direc- <br /> tors from Mexico will be on hand to discuss how <br /> San Antonio and its Mexican partners transformed <br /> former Sister City relationships into revenue tbr <br /> each respective community through two-way <br /> trade. <br /> <br /> River Walk Development San <br /> Antonio's River Walk is the centerpiece of its $3 <br /> billion visitor indusmy. Its dynamic evolution and <br /> gro,~xh over the past 60 years provides a model <br /> for downtown revitalization in other parts of the <br /> country. The city is planning to conduct a series <br /> of informative tours along the River Walk during <br /> the conference that will provide information on its <br /> history and development and the benefits it has <br /> provided to the city. <br /> <br />Success~l Public Safety Skategies <br />TI- ' will conduct a series of workshops high- <br />Iib _. successful components of its community- <br />based policing programs. Workshops will cover <br />two citizen involvement programs- the Citizen <br />Police Academy and the Cellular on Patrol <br />Program; a police bicycle and foot patrol pro- <br />gram; and the San Antonio Fear Free <br />Environment Program (SAFFE). Representatives <br />of the police depamnent will provide information <br />and practical advice on how to design and imple- <br />ment similar programs to ensure a safe and secure <br />community. <br /> <br />Coliseum Oaks Affordable Housing <br />Project Coliseum Oaks is a new neighbor- <br />hood of single-family homes created to provide a <br />safe, attractive community on San Antonio's East <br />Side. The goal of the public-private partnership <br />sponsoring this development is to build new <br />homes at reasonable prices and revitalize the inner <br />city to provide home ownership oppommities and <br />amenities for home buyers seeking affordable, <br />attractive new neighborhoods. The workshop will <br />include a visit to the neighborhood and an oppor- <br />tunity to learn about the unique and successful <br />partnership that made this project a reality. <br />A lily.ri ~' tim 21d Gm~ San <br />Antonio's "enchilada red" Central Public Library <br />has drawn remarkable attention in its first full year <br />of operation, both for its unique architecture and <br />its co-,,rehensive information resources. Tech City will pro- <br />vide easy access to examples <br />of technology tools that are <br />being used in cities across <br />the counny. In addition, <br />Tech City will offer an <br />oppommity to experience <br />Access Local Govenm'~ent, <br />NLC's on-line source of <br />information and connections <br />for local officials.
