AIRPORT INFORMATION <br />San Antonio International Airport is <br />13 miles from the downtown River <br />Walk and is directly linked via <br />expressway. Delegates may ride the <br />shuttle, take a taxicab, or rent a car to <br />get to the hotels. <br />STAR SHUTTLE <br /> For reservations-210/341-6000 <br />Fares: One way $6 adults; children <br />under six are free. <br />TAXIS <br /> Metered service based on $2.80 <br />for the first mile and $1.10 for each <br />additional mile. The time to the cen- <br />tral business district is approximately <br />15 minutes with an average fare <br />being about $12 plus tip. Four ride <br />for the price of one. Price subject to <br />change. <br /> <br />TRAVELING AROUND <br />THE CITY ON THE VIA <br />METROPOLITAN TRANSIT <br />SERVICE <br />There are many forms of transporta- <br />tion for traveling around San <br />Antonio. Whether you want to travel <br />the scenic route downtown on the <br />trolley car or by horsedrawn car- <br />riages or by river shuttle, the choice <br />is yours. If you want to experience <br />the public transportation' system, <br />there are 95 regular bus routes, and <br />four San Antonio downtown street- <br />car routes that travel to every major <br />tourist attraction and business in the <br />central business district, VIA makes <br />travel around the city very easy and <br />pleasurable. There are express routes <br />from the downtown area to the dif- <br />ferent theme parks. <br /> If you are looking for a new <br />experience, downtown travel is a <br />breeze on the VIA Streetcar. Hop on <br />board an open air, authentic repro- <br />duction of a rail streetcar which trav- <br />eled the streets of San Antonio more <br />than 50 years ago. Four streetcar <br /> <br />mutes take you to many downtoxvn <br />locations, including The Alamo, <br />Spanish Governor's Palace, La <br />Villita, St. Paul Square, Southwest <br />Craft Center, Institute of Texan <br />Cultures, and the King William area. <br />Downtown shopping is made easy <br />with the streetcar traveling past major <br />stores. Fares are based on travel <br />distance. <br /> <br />RIVER SHUTTLE <br />The River Shuttle provides a quick <br />and scenic water taxi to restaurants <br />and hotels along the River Walk. <br />River taxis are available by reserva- <br />tion for $4 plus tax for adults and $1 <br />for children five and under. Iickets <br />may be purchased in advance at sew <br />eral downtown hotels and restau- <br />rants. Price is subject to change. <br /> <br />ACTIVITIES FOR SPOUSE, <br />GUESTS, AND YOUTH <br />City officials are also planning a <br />variety of special activities for spous- <br />es, guests, and youth during the con- <br />ference. All delegates will <br /> <br />receive a detailed brochure about <br />these special events with their regis- <br />tration confirmations. Preliminary <br />plans include: <br /> A day-long visit to Nuevo <br />Laredo just across the border in <br />Mexico.
