Theresa,
Attached are the policies ordered by the Commission and a redline showing your suggested
modifications of our initial draft. As you suggested:
• The policy regarding disposal of property was modified to reflect your concern about
employees who might bid on multiple vehicles at police auctions. We also modified
this policy so that the items which have a disposal cost is not an exclusive list. In
addition, the personal use of Utility equipment portion of this policy was slightly
modified to note that other policies may allow some personal use.
• The office equipment, a-mail and Internet use policy was modified to allow
reasonable use of computers, facsimile machines, and photocopy machines (in
addition to the reasonable a-mail, Internet, and voicemail use already allowed under
our draft). We believe that it is best to explicitly list those items the Commission
wishes to allow for personal use and then actually enforce the policy for non-allowed
items. This is preferable to a prohibition without actual enforcement.
So long as the Commission endorses these changes, we see no reason why they should not be
incorporated.
Sincerely,
Sam Diehl
