Book Proposal The City of Elk River's HPC is in the process of publishing a history tabletop book through Arcadia about the City of Elk River. The book will cover the time period prior to 1900. The book will briefly focus upon Native American battles, and also include information on fur trading, the Civil War (and those who settled here following the war), businesses, the potato market, etc. There is potential to have a second book if this one is successful Preservation of Water Tower The City's HPC is also trying to determine how to raise funds to preserve the old downtown Elk River Water Tower (circa 1920). It needs to be painted at the cost of $128,000 because of lead-based paint. The HPC was given until September 2009 to find the funding to preserve it or it will be torn down.
