You support renewable energy by purchasing from us blocks of wind power. One l OOKWH
block of wind power costs an additional $2.25/mo. Due to cost reductions in this wind power program,
your block of 100KWH of wind power is reduced to $1.90/mo. effective August consumption/September
billing.
For your information, legislation recently enacted., affects Minnesota's Electric Utilities approach to
renewable energy. Previously electric utilities were required to make "good faith efforts" towards
providing 6% renewable energy by 2010. The Renewable Energy Standard Legislation passed in 2007
changes the "good faith" efforts to "shall provide the following % of their total electric sales to retail
customers from eligible renewable technologies" based upon certain conditions.
12% by year 2012
17% by year 2016
20% by year 2020
25% by year 2025
Wind Power is an eligible renewable technology. The legislative change from "good faith efforts" to
"shall" may influence your desire to continue your participation in our renewable Wind Power program.
More directly we are required by law to offer the opportunity to participate in this program. The
difference is, now we are required to build renewable energy facilities with or without your voluntary
participation.
If you desire to stop your participation in our Wind Power program, please call us at 763-441-2020 and
indicate your wishes. If you desire to continue in the Wind Power program and support renewable
energy, no call is necessary and we will keep you on this program.
Best regards,
Bryan Adams
General Manager
