City of Elk River Top of the World Restoration - 2007 Metro Greemvays Site Restoration Nomination Page S
proposed in this application, as well as long-term management of the site.
C. Imminence of Threat
Many natural areas and potential corridors are threatened by invasion of exotic species. In some situations, only a short period of
time maybe available to protect an area from being signif candy degraded. Higher priority will 6e given to those sites with an
immediate threat from invasion by exotic species, if the proposal includes provision for ongoing exotics control.
Describe the type and level of threat, if any, to the site.
The City has expended a significant amount of financial and physical resources to protect Top of the World
Park. Continuing its commitment to the site, the City is embarking on long-term restoration and management
of natural areas within the park, including the activities proposed in this application.
D. Other Factors
Certain sites, by virtue of their size, characteristics, location, and history can further natural resource protection by increasing
awareness of the Metro Greemvays program and its goals. Sites and projects that bring these important benefits to the program will
receive extra consideration. Would the project not be able to be done, but for Metro Greemvays support? Also, an attempt will also
be made to distribute protected sites throughout the region and within urban, suburban and rural areas.
Restoration of this particular area within Top of the World Park will help to control the threat of
nonnative/invasive grasses in this portion of the park, as well as increase native species richness and provide
continuity of native plant communities across the park, along the Great Northern Trail/greenway corridor, and
within this region of the city. It will restore native habitat between adjacent MCBS/Sites of Biodiversity
Significance areas.
