Budget Report <br />The HPC has a budget of $6,000. $1,000 has been set aside for Preservation Day and <br />conferences. The remaining $5,000 was used for matching funds for the 2004 SHPO Grant. <br />6. Discuss Literature Search and Archaeological Modeling Grant <br />Bobbie informed the committee that Jason Haug has been in approximately three times a <br />week and is in the final phase of finishing up the literature search. Dr. Rothaus has made <br />some maps and is also close to having them completed. The second part of May, Dr. <br />Rothaus plans to be in the field starting test pits. <br />Update on 2004 SHPO Grant <br />No updates as to whether the grant has been approved. <br />Discuss Preservation Week Event. (May 3 to MaL) <br />Rebecca and Bobbie Scott, archaeologist from SCHS, met and discussed having Preservation <br />Day on May 8 from 9:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. to be held at Lion's Park Center. Some of the <br />activities to be conducted during this time include Dr. Rothaus speaking about the literature <br />search and obtaining more information from residents, possibly having Dale Cannon, a local <br />flint knapper have demonstrations for children, putting up displays in downtown businesses <br />of then and now photos, and having Paige Rothaus conduct kid oriented archaeological <br />activities. The discussion of charging a minimal fee has been brought up. Bobbie has been <br />working with Community Education to have this event placed in their directory. Some <br />other areas where the event may be advertised include the City newsletter, Star News, <br />Chamber of Commerce Read Board, City and MHS websites, banners along Highway 10 <br />(similar to those used for the Art and Craft Show), flyers and displays. It was decided that <br />Commissioner Dwyer and Commissioner Olson along with Steve would meet on March 15 <br />at 10:00 a.m. to go and look at photographs available at SCHS to make displays for <br />downtown businesses. <br />9. Apri122 Volunteer Recognition Dinner <br />Volunteer Recognition Dinner has been scheduled for Apri122. Invitations will be sent out. <br />9a. Elk High Stadium <br />Steve informed the committee that Elk High Stadium has been nominated for the National <br />Register of Historic Places. The nomination will be March 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the Minnesota <br />Historical Society. It was decided that Commissioner Olson would write a letter to the <br />Rotary showing appreciation for the hard work they have done to make this happen. <br />Commissioner Kragness will write something for the paper. <br />9b. National Alliance Preservation Commission (NAPC~ <br />Steve informed the Committee that the NAPC sent out an application to become a member. <br />The cost for the City's HPC would be $125. According to Commissioner Kragness, it would <br />not be worth it. <br />
