Heritage Festival Meeting Minutes <br />Tuesday, April 23, 1996 <br /> <br />Attendees: Nettie DuBois, Ron Wilkes, James Duncan, John and Evelyn MacGibbon, <br />Florence and Earl Greet, John Olson, Joy Swanson, Gwyn Schwanbeck, Don Heinzman, <br />Kurt Kragness, Lynn Caswell, Three Bears O'Donnell, Planning Assistant Scott Harlicker <br />and Ma bonanza, Deb Coverston, Bill Lindberg, Dave Beauvais, Sandy Thackeray <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Ron Wilkes. The minutes of the March 19, 1996 meeting <br />were read and approved. A tentative schedule of events was distributed. <br /> <br />COMMITTEE UPDATES <br /> <br />Nettie DuBois - Trading Post and David Faribault Look-alike Contest - Nettie <br />reported that a meeting for area retailers will be held on May 14. <br /> <br />Nettie indicated that a David Faribault look-alike contest would be held. The entry deadline <br />is July 21. Nettie indicated that the entrants will be judged by RSVP and there will be a <br />prize of $100. <br /> <br />Nettie reported that flyers regarding the Heritage Festival will be distributed to all students <br />in the school district. She further indicted that the School board will be meeting and voting <br />on whether the "No Weapons" policy will be waived for the rendezvous planned for the <br />Handke pit. <br /> <br />Nettie further reported that the Central Lutheran Church is considering holding a <br />community "old time" church service on Sunday, August 11. <br /> <br />Nettie reported that old style clothing is available for purchase at Boots 'N Bits located in <br />Hastings, MN. She brought some sample clothing (2 men's shifts) which she is willing to <br />sell for the purchase price of $10.00 each. <br /> <br />Kurt Kragness - Day in the Life of Elk River Photo Display <br /> <br />Kurt reported that the grant money of $2,172 was from the Central Minnesota Initiative <br />Fund. He stated that the Bank of Elk River has donated $250 toward the event and Kodak <br />has donated 40 rolls of film. A school class will be asked to shoot some photos so that <br />students can be involved. At the completion of the photo display, the photos will be donated <br />to the Historical Society. <br /> <br />HISTORICAL TOURS - Historical tours will be given in horse drawn trolleys beginning at <br />Jackson square to the dam. There will be three designated stations with historical <br />information. Discussion was held regarding residents of older homes and historical <br />churches possibly opening up these buildings for tours. <br /> <br />Don Heinzman - Parade Committee <br /> <br />Don Heinzman reported that the parade route has been identified. A map of the route was <br />distributed. He reported that the committee is hoping for 100 units in the parade including <br />10 bands. Don indicated that the committee has received requests from several groups who <br />would like to be in the band, however, most groups require payment of some kind. He <br />indicated that due to funding constraints, the committee would have to decide which units <br />could be afforded. It was suggested that area businesses sponsor band units. Jim Duncan <br />updated those present as to what Maple Grove community does to promote band units. <br /> <br />Rendezvous - Jon Bera Jon Beta indicated that a Rendezvous is being planned for the <br />festival and will be held at Handke Pit. He indicated that a Rendezvous is a living history <br />camp offering a way for people to learn the history of different time periods. Mr. Beta <br /> <br /> <br />
