Elk River Curbside Recycling Program There seems tobe some confusion about what is and is not acceptable recyclable material in our curbside recycling pro- gram. Currently, we recycle five different items: · Newspaper · Metal Food Cans · Glass · Plastic Bottles With Necks · Corrugated Cardboard Newspa_ocr- Everything that comes in the Sunday paper is recyclable, including glossy inserts. Place newspapers in paper bags. At this time, catalogs, magazines, phone books, junk msil, cereal boxes, etc. are NOT ACCEPTABLE. Metal Food Car~ - Ail steel, aluminum and tin food and beverage cans are acceptable. Rinse cans and place clean, dry cans in paper bags. Glass- Clear, brown and green glass bottles and jars are acceptable. Remove all caps, lids and rings. No need to remove labels. Rinse containers. Place clean, dry glass in paper bags. Glass must be separated by color (clear, brown or green). Plastic Bottles with Necks - Only plastic bottles with necks will be accepted. Remove caps, lids, rings and pumps. Labels do not need to be removed. Rinse containers. Place clean, dry containers in paper bags. Corrugated Cardbo6rd - This is the newest addition to our program. Only corrugated cardboard is accepted (No gift boxes, cereal boxes, pizza boxes, milk cartons or other paper- board materials are accepted). Cardboard must be clean and dry. Flatten the cardboard and cut into pieces not larger than 3 ft. by 3 ft. and notmore than 6 inches thick. Bundle the cardboard with twine or rope and place alongside, under or on top of the green recycling container. This information can be found on the green recycling calendar/information sheet each resident received in their November 1995 utility bill. Refuse and Recycling Refilse Collection: The City of Elk River has developed an organized route refuse collection system. Everyone within the city limits must be on the refuse/recycling service pre- vided by the city. To ar- range refuse and recy- cling pickup, please con- tact Elk River Utilities at 441-2020. Additional Recvclin~ bins: Replacement recy- cling containers are avail- able by cslllng Utilities at 441- 2020. Extra recycling bins are available at Elk River City Hall for $5 each. Placement Of Con- tainers for Pickuo: Place garbage con- tainers at the end of your driveway, out of the wayofthe plow, post- man and other vehicles. The green recycling bin should be placed on the opposite side of your driveway, away from the garbage container. Do not place the recycling container di- rectly in front of or behind the garbage container--the auto- mated garbage trucks may tip over the recycling bin and the recycling truck may not see the recycling bin. ~,~: Your rate reflects 90 or 32 gallons per week. If you have extra garbage (i.e. the lid does not close on the garbage can), prior arrangements need to be made by contact- ing your hauler in advance. There will be an additional chsrge of $2 per bag at the time of service. Household Hazardous Waste cannot be disposed of with your garbage.
