<br /> <br />Leadership Perspectives <br />Leadership Perspectives is a program designed to <br />develop community leaders by introducing them to key <br />issues facing the Elk River area. It is a series of <br />day-long sesssions, held monthly, from September <br />through May at Elk River City Hall. <br />Goals of the program aze: <br />• To identify and motivate potemial leaders (Feeder <br />program for health of commissions, committees and <br />task forces) <br />• To educate and inform participants of the <br />opportunities and needs of the community <br />• To introduce participants to wmmunity leaders <br />• To encourage individuals m develop as 'esprit de <br />corps" with leaders and their peers <br />• To develop personal leadership skills that will <br />enhance contributions to community organizations <br />If you have questions or warn to schedule a presentation <br />for your group on Leadership Perspectives, contact <br />Jackie Schuelein at the Elk River Area Chamber of <br />Commerce, 441-3110. <br />Kick Off & Orientation <br />Thursday, September 7, 1995 5:30 p.m. <br />Location: Riverwood Metro Business Resort <br />Facilitators: Vicki Sullivan & Myron Rothstein <br />Meet those who will be participating in the Leadership <br />Perspectives program in an informal setting. Planing <br />committee members will welcome you and further <br />define the leadership sessions. The Myers Briggs Type <br />Indicator will also be presented to participants during <br />this orientation, so your attendance is hiehly <br />encouraged. <br />Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served. <br />Cash baz. Casual dress. <br />Myers Briggs Leadership Profile <br />Friday, September 15, 1995 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. <br />Location: Elk River City Hall <br />Facilitators: Anoka Ramsey or Anoka Hennepin <br />The results of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator will be <br />interpreted and discussed. Participants will learn about <br />the'a personality and leadership styles and how they <br />influence people around them. The session will also <br />focus on application of type in wmmunication and <br />professional working relationships. <br />Leadership Skills <br />Friday, October 20, 1995 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. <br />Location: Elk River City Hall <br />Facilitators: Rick Olson and/or Myers Briggs resource <br />Participants will be introduced to elements of effective <br />leadership: self-esteem, motivation, goal setting, and <br />time management. All topics will be discussed in light <br />of type dynamics and development. The day will <br />include presentation and group activity working with <br />knowledge and skills learned through the Myers Briggs <br />Type Indicator. <br />Heritage/Cultural Diversity <br />Friday, November 17, 1995 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. <br />Location: Elk River City Hall <br />Facilitators: Kurt Kragcess & Dick Erickson <br />Heritage: This session will introduce participants to <br />Elk River's unique heritage. Special attention will be <br />given to history, azchitectttre, current issues regarding <br />the preservation of historical buildings and how these <br />concerns will impact the future of Elk River. <br />Cultural Diversity: Tbis session will introduce each <br />individual to his/her unique cultural heritage. Specific <br />attention will be given to: valuing diversity, personal <br />uniqueness, eliminating barriers, and improving lines of <br />communication between individuals. <br />Government & Metiia <br />Friday, December 15, 1995 8:30 to 4:00 p.m. <br />Location: Elk River City Hall <br />Facilitators: Rich Duggan & Terry Hagen <br />The fast half of the day will be spent exam;n;ng roles <br />and relationships among local units of governmem. <br />City, county and school district issues will be discussed <br />by a panel of representatives from the city council, <br />county commissioners and school board. The afternoon <br />will be a fast paced interactive session where <br />participants will learn how to successfully access the <br />media through an increased understanding of how and <br />why the media works. <br />Industry <br />Friday, January 19, 1996 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. <br />Location: Elk River City Hall <br />Facilitator: Ed Cunning[on <br />A panel of local entrepreneurs will shaze the history of <br />their companies, including critical turning points in the <br />founding and development of their businesses. In <br />addition, participants will explore the "bows and whys" <br />of issues such as attracting new business, total quality . <br />managemem, population shifts and Elk River's current <br />business climate. Participants will. visit selected <br />businesses to experiecee the divdrsity of local industry. <br />Economic Vitality <br />Friday, February 16; 1996 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. <br />Location: Elk River City Hall <br />Facilitators: Bill Rubin 8t 7ackie Schuelein <br />This session will explore the impact of retail, industrial, <br />agricultural(?) and health care sectors of the Elk River <br />azea. Discussion by city and county representatives <br />will cover local development. In addition, reference <br />will be made to the role of financial institutions in the <br />growth and expansion of business and the economy. <br />
