REQUEST FOR ACTION <br />To Item Number <br />Ci Council 5.4. <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br />Administration Se tember 2, 2008 Te Maurer, Public Works Director <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Consider Banner Arms for TH10 Lighting <br /> Reviewed by <br />Action Requested <br />Staff is seeking direction as to how to proceed with the banner arm issue for the new lighting <br />being installed by Connexus Energy along TH 10. <br />Background/Discussion <br />As requested by the City Council I have gathered information from a number of sources <br />regarding banner arms along the TH 10 corridor. The information includes the cost of installing <br />the banner arms, the cost of banners, approximate costs for installing and removal of the banners, <br />and finally, information provided by MnDOT permitting engineer. The various pieces of <br />information are as follows: <br />Installation of the Banner Arms <br />Leo Offerman has provided the following information (a copy of the email from Leo is <br />attached). Based on the types of poles that have been selected, the following axe the options <br />for banner arm installations: <br />One 24"x48" banner arm on one side of the pole, requiring two arms, one at the top <br />and one at the bottom, on spring brackets is $210.00 per pole. <br />Installing two triangular banners on opposite sides of the pole requiring two banner <br />arms on spring brackets and eyelets at the bottom for the banners is $215.00 per <br />pole. <br />An option of only putting one triangular banner on each pole with the eyelet would <br />be $135.00 each. <br />All of these options are banner arms that are banded to the poles so additional banner <br />arms could be installed or removed at a later date. <br />Examples of triangular banners can be seen in downtown Anoka and rectangular ones in the <br />City of Becker along TH 10. <br />The Street Division sign-making equipment is capable of making the banners, depending <br />upon the type of material used.
