TO:

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

MEMORANDUM

Mayor and City Council

Phil Hals, Street/Park Superintendent

October 23, 2002

Completion of Mechanic Shop Improvements

During the winter of 2001/2002 we converted the west end of the public works building
from equipment storage to a first rate mechanic's shop. To complete the facility we
need to address health and safety issues regarding air quality, therefore I propose the
following:

· Installation of an automotive exhaust collection system
· Installation of a carbon monoxide and nitrous oxide sensors
to be connected with the air exhaust system to automatically
ventilate the shop and equipment storage bays when fumes reach
a set level.
· Installation of two make up air furnaces to heat incoming make
up air.
· Contingency fund
· TOTAL

$6,650.00

4,000.00

7,500.00
1,850.00
$2O,OOO.OO

City Council Action Requested:
Authorize the purchase and installation of an automotive exhaust collection system,
Carbon monoxide/nitrous oxide sensors, and two make up air furnaces. Funding would
be from equipment services general fund with the possibility of doing a budget
amendment at the end of the year if those line items come up short.

10-23-02 M&C SnowPIowPolicy. doc
