City Council Minutes Page 12 <br />August ] 9, 2002 <br /> <br /> Mayor Klinzing also stated that in general Mn/DOT should consider an alternative route for <br /> Highway 10. She stated that commuters should be directed to use Interstate 94 as the <br /> primary route to and from the western suburbs. She felt that two freeways through the city <br /> in the future is not acceptable and would like traffic to be encouraged to use alternate routes. <br /> <br />Council directed staff to draft a resolution to MnDOT relating to the corridor study and to <br />bring the resolution back to the Council for review and adoption. <br /> <br />Councilmember Motin stated that he thought the plan proposed by Mn/DOT was <br />acceptable. He stated that most commuters using Highway 10 are not going to consider it <br />feasible to backtrack to Interstate 94. Most commuters using Highway 10 are not going to <br />stop and visit the downtown area. Councilmember Motin further stated that completing the <br />plan proposed by MnDOT would make it much easier for the residents of Elk River to get <br />around the city and would spur business in the central business district. <br /> <br />Trunk Highway 169/County Road 33 Interchange <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER TVEITE MOVED TO APPROVE RESOLUTION 02-81 <br />FOR TURNBACK APPROVAL OF TRUNK HIGHWAY 169. <br />COUNCILMEMBER MOTIN SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION <br />CARRIED 5-0. <br /> <br />8. Other Business <br /> <br />There was no other business. <br /> <br />9. Staff Updates <br /> <br />City Administrator Pat Klaers stated that the city has had trouble finding a receptionist for <br />the front desk through a temporary agency and would be advertising for this position. <br /> <br />10.
