The resolution should be modified as desired to reflect the Council's views prior to
adoption.
Background/Discussion
This resolution was distributed to the Council at last week's work session and is back on the agenda for
consideration. Transportation funding is an important issue for the City, particularly because of the major
improvements needed to the two trunk highways that run through Elk River. These are very high priority
projects for the City and obviously should not and can not be funded entirely by Elk River residents. The
only way to fund them is through changes in transportation funding and participation by the state and
federal governments.
The League's resolution includes many options for transportation funding; however, the Council may
want to change these and also add specific language about Elk River's unique need for funding of state
highways.
Financial Impact
None
Attachments
^ Resolution Requesting Comprehensive Road and Transit Funding
^ League of Minnesota Cities 2008 Transportation Funding Policy Statement
^ E-mail from Jim Miller, Executive Director, League of Minnesota Cities
Action Motion by Second by Vote
Follow Up
S:\Council\Lori\2[108\League Resolution Requesting Comprehensive Road and Transit Funding.doc
