• MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor & City Council
FROM: Phil Hals, Street/Park Superintende t
DATE: March 20, 1995
SUBJECT: Fire Chief s Car
The Fire Chief's car is a 1989 recycled police car with over 150,000 miles.
For all practical purposes it has reached the end of its useful life. In the past
four months, members of my staff have installed a new power steering pump,
a heater motor and heater care, a valve cover gasket, front brakes, and a
transmission gasket.
In diagnosing the problem of rough starting and fuel overloading, Terry Mack
discovered that the throttle body in the bottom of the carburetor is worn to
the point of needing a remanufactured caburetor at an approximate cost of
$575.00.
• If these repairs would give us three to six months worth of service, the cost
would be justified, but the Fire Chief needs dependable transportation and
the track record of this car is not good. It is my recommendation that the
City Council consider replacing this vehicle as soon as possible.
•
