These ongoing costs must be considered as the feasibility of any parking
structure is explored. The following Table 10 presents the typical costs to operate
and maintain a parking structure. These costs are based upon a nationwide
survey. The typical annual cost to operate and maintain a parking structure
totals about $184 per space. The costs do not include the labor costs to operate
the structure with the traditional exit lane cashiers. The labor costs for a
cashiered operation will add significant annual costs.
Table 10
Typical Annual per Space Costs
Liability Insurance $ 12.00
Utilities & Phone $ 45.00
Elevator Maintenance $ 20.00
Equipment Maintenance $ 6.00
General Maintenance $ 12.00
Parking Supplies $ 6.00
Legal & Accounting $ 4.00
Loss & Damage $ 8.00
Maintenance Supplies $ 8.00
Snow Removal $ 8.00
Miscellaneous $ 5.00
$184
Annual
Options Spaces O&M Costs
1 273 $ 50,000
2 278 $ 51,000
3 243 $ 45,000
4 430 $ 79,000
Structural Repair Reserve Fund $ 50.00
Management Overhead $ -
Estimated Annual O & M Costs $184.00
Costs above assume the parking structure
will not be operated with cashiers.
