7 <br />l <br />1Livcr <br />Downtown Parking Study <br />The overall height of the structures has been limited to two to three supported <br />levels so that the structure will be compatible with the existing buildings in <br />downtown Elk River. It is possible to design parking structures to accommodate a <br />horizontal or a vertical expansion. In most cases a horizontal expansion is easier <br />than a vertical expansion. A vertical expansion requires that a significant portion <br />of the structure must be closed to the public during the construction period. If <br />parking demand is high enough to warrant an expansion, the structure is likely to <br />be regularly full; finding alternate parking locations for the current users of the <br />structure can be difficult. <br />All of the concepts shown include spaces that are 9'0" wide set at 90° to drive <br />aisles.
