<br />Incidental sign means a small sign, emblem, or decal informing the public of facilities or
<br />services available on the premises.
<br />Individual sewage treatment system means a sewage treatment system or part thereof,
<br />serving a dwelling or other establishment, or group thereof, which utilizes subsurface soil
<br />treatment and dispersal.
<br />Industrial use means the use of land or buildings for the production, manufacture,
<br />warehousing, storage, or transfer of goods, products, commodities, or other wholesale
<br />items.
<br />Institutional use means a place or facility which is designed for use as a place of worship,
<br />for public services, including education, for nonprofit educational use, and for health care
<br />facilities for principally inpatient care.
<br />Intensive vegetation clearing means the complete removal oftrees or shrubs in a
<br />contiguous patch, strip, row, or block.
<br />Interim use means the temporary use of a property until a particular date, or until the
<br />occurrence of a particular event.
<br />Jail means a secure adult detention facility used to confine sentenced prisoners for a time
<br />not to exceed one full year per conviction, adult pre-trial and pre-sentenced detainees
<br />indefinitely, and juveniles up to limits prescribed by the state.
<br />Junkyard means land or buildings where products resulting from the wrecking of
<br />vehicles or other machinery are bought, sold, exchanged, stored, baled, cleaned, packed,
<br />disassembled or handled. The outdoor storage of two or more inoperative motor vehicles
<br />shall also be considered a junkyard.
<br />Kennel, commercial, means any premises where more than three animals over six
<br />months of age are boarded, trained or bred for compensation or are offered for sale,
<br />except for animals being raised as agricultural livestock, an animal hospital, a veterinary
<br />clinic or a pet shop.
<br />Kennel, private, means any premises where more than three dogs or three cats over the
<br />age of six months are harbored or kept, except for a commercial kennel. Any premises of
<br />ten acres or more that are used to harbor or keep up to ten cats over the age of six months
<br />shall be excluded from this definition as long as all of the cats have been spayed or
<br />neutered.
<br />Kickplate means the area from the sidewalk surface to the bottom of the display area.
<br />Kitchen means a space which contains a sink with counter working space, space for
<br />installing cooking and refrigeration equipment, and space for the storage of cooking
<br />utensils.
<br />Land trust means a nonprofit organization that, as all or part of its mission, works to
<br />conserve land by undertaking or assisting direct land transactions, primarily the purchase
<br />or acceptance of donations of land or easements.
<br />Land use district means those lands designated by the commissioner as the protected
<br />land corridor along the Mississippi River which the commissioner has designated as
<br />components of the Minnesota Wild and Scenic Rivers System.
<br />Landscape means site amenities, including trees, shrubs, ground covers, flowers,
<br />fencing, berms, retaining walls and other outdoor furnishings.
<br />Landscaping contractor yard means the use of land, buildings or structures for the
<br />storage of equipment and materials, or as office space, in conjunction with the operation
<br />of a landscaping business.
