.

The establishment of a Fire Marshall or Inspector position is still a possibility if a
comprehensive inspection program is implemented. Attached for your review is some
information on such a position. The first attachment is the Fire Marshall job description
from the City of Woodbury. This position was just recently established. The second
attachment is the July 1993 information from the Fire Chief which shows a summary of
the duties of a fire inspector.

Two final notes include the fact that this program is not a housing maintenance code type
of program that has been discussed by the City Council with the Building and Zoning
Administrator. Also, and not directly related to the inspections program, is the issue of
the Fire Chief s employment status. Russ Anderson has indicated that he may retire this
summer. If this retirement happens, the City Council will need to evaluate the
management of the Fire Department and need for a partial or complete inspections
program. A number of options are available for the Council to evaluate in this regard.

e

e
