The City would still be served by four <br />the lines for the wards would remain stable. <br /> <br />districts, <br />wards into <br />wards and <br /> <br />Because the elimination of precinct lines affects existing <br />polling locations, staff is recommending that the Council take <br />this opportunity to relocate the polling locations. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br /> <br />4It Consider Removal of Precinct Boundaries: <br /> <br />In February, 1993, the US Supreme Court ruled that the <br />boundaries of Minnesota's eight congressional districts were <br />improperly drawn. This ruling affects the City of Elk River. <br />Prior to this ruling, the City of Elk River was split by the <br />congressional district boundary for districts 6 and 8. As a <br />result of the US Supreme Court decision, the congressional line <br />was moved to the east putting Elk River entirely in <br />congressional district 8. <br /> <br />With the City in only one <br />legislative district, there <br />existing wards into precincts. <br />the four wards will not change. <br /> <br />congressional district and one <br />is no current need to divide the <br />The existing boundary lines of <br /> <br />The redescription of the four wards showing the elimination of <br />precincts must be done by ordinance amendment.
