<br />Economic Development Authority Meeting <br />October 14, 1996 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Commissioner Dwyer suggested that restaurants locating in the downtown be <br />given special consideration due to the difficulty and expense of redevelopment <br />projects. <br /> <br />It was the general consensus that staff continue to explore financing options for <br />SAC/W AC charges on restaurants in redevelopment areas. <br /> <br />7. Uodate on Enerav City Issues <br /> <br />Paul Steinman. Executive Director. stated the presentation with Minnesota <br />Environmental Initiative/Energy Alley on October 8. 1996 went very well. The <br />event showcased six businesses with innovative technologies in the energy <br />related field. Northwest Suburban Builders Association is proposing to construct <br />a home with energy efficiency related technologies. <br /> <br />Paul Steinman also stated the Action Committee for Energy (ACE) has been <br />meeting on a regular basis to begin the planning stages of the Energy City <br />initiative. The four subcommittees of this group include Marketing. <br />Demonstration Sites. Energy Use. and Economic Development. President Jeff <br />Gongoll volunteered to serve on the Economic Development subcommittee. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />The slogan which represents the new partnership between MEI/Energy Alley and <br />the City of Elk River is: <br />Elk River - Energy City <br />Renewable and Efficient Energy for Today and the 2/ st Century <br /> <br />8. <br /> <br />Hohlen Proiect Uodate <br /> <br />Paul Steinman. Executive Director. updated the Commission with the following <br />development issues: <br /> <br />o Notice of mobile home park closure has been served to residents <br />o A public hearing will beheld at the City Council meeting in November <br />regarding the mobile home park closure. <br />o Conceptual discussion indicates there will be two big box retailers <br />located on the site. <br />o Approximately 75 acres total- scme in wetland and some <br />encumbered by electrical transmission lines. <br />o Several freestanding pads will be developed. <br />o Final approvals for the project will likely occur in spring of 1997. <br /> <br />Mayor Duitsman stated the County is considering upgrading County Road 12 <br />and there should be some discussion regarding County Road 12 and 13. <br /> <br />The commission indicated its desire to have staff continue to work toward <br />creating an opportunity for industrial property within this overall project. <br /> <br />e <br />
