Mr. Schmitz informed the EDA that the landfill has <br />indicated that they are willing to donate the first 11/2 tons of <br />refuse if the City will waive the sales tax. He further indicated that <br />the clean up day will be held on April 21, 1990. <br /> <br />6.2 <br /> <br />Other/RecYclin~ Coordinator <br /> <br />Gary Schmitz stated that there is a natural gas easement correction <br />wi thin the plat of Royal Oaks Ridge. He indicated that the easement <br />does not exist and was vacated, however, it was never taken off the <br />original plat. Chairman Tralle stated that it would take Council <br />action to remove the gas easement from the plat and therefore the EDA <br />should not consider this issue. <br /> <br />7. Marketin~ Pro~ram <br /> <br />Dick Fursman, Economic Development Coordinator, informed the EDA that <br />staff has been working with Mike Mulrooney, Economic Development <br />Consul tant for the City, to develop a marketing outline. He stated <br />that the budget for the marketing program in 1990 is $20,000. Mr. <br />Fursman reviewed with the EDA various elements of the marketing program. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Newsletter ...Mr. Fursman stated that the staff is proposing an <br />economic development newsletter to be distributed quarterly with an <br />approximate cost of $6,000 per year. Mr. Fursman stated that the <br />newsletter would be sent to local manufacturers as well as <br />manufacturers in the northern part of the metropolitan area. <br />Commissioner Gongoll stated that he felt it was important that the <br />newsletter be distributed to local businesses. <br /> <br />Direct Mail ...Mr. Fursman indicated that the direct mail program <br />would be similar to the newsletter, however, this would provide more <br />specific project or site information to each recipient. Mr. Fursman <br />stated that the approximate cost for the direct mail program would be <br />$4,000. <br /> <br />Billboards .. .Mr. Fursman stated that as part of image building and <br />to help make people aware of Elk River, billboard advertising could be <br />used. Commissioner Gongoll suggested that airports would be a good <br />location for billboard advertising. Mr. Fursman stated that billboard <br />advertising in itself would not be effective but that it is part of the <br />marketing program to be used with other venues and that all of the <br />venues used together would be effective. Mr. Fursman stated that he <br />would like to investigate the cost of billboard advertising prior to <br />making any recommendations. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The EDA discussed the two entrance signs into the City of Elk River. <br />It was indicated that at one time a third sign was proposed for the <br />northern corridor. Commissioner Kropuenske stated that the biggest <br />problem in the delay of the sign was finding the correct location to <br />place the sign. Further discussion pursued regarding the placement of <br />the third Welcome to Elk River sign. It was the consensus of the EDA <br />
