Separation from Employment <br />Resignation <br />The purpose of proper notice is to ensure an orderly transition of responsibilities and <br />open work items. Holidays or the use of vacation, sick/ESST, or compensatory time may <br />only be approved by the cityeradministrator to be considered proper notice. <br />Employees are not eligible for pay increases after resignation notice has been given. <br />With proper notice, the employee will be compensated for any accrued, unused vacation <br />time. If eligible, s/he may also be compensated for a portion of banked sick/ESST leave as <br />stated in the Severance Pay Section of this policy manual. <br />Proper notice must be submitted in writing to the employee's supervisor. Employees <br />working a typical Monday through Friday schedule must provide notice at least ten (10) <br />working days prior to the separation date. Department directors must provide a twenty <br />(20) working day notice. Employees working a shift schedule that may include weekends <br />and evenings shall provide a fourteen (14) calendar day notice. <br />Non-exempt employees will be compensated for any accrued but unused compensatory <br />time as of the date of separation. <br />An unauthorized absence from work for a period of three (3) or more working days may be <br />considered a resignation without proper notice. <br />Failure to comply with this notice procedure may be considered reason for denying an <br />employee future employment with the city. <br />Termination <br />Employees terminated from employment have no right or expectation of payment of <br />accrued vacation, sick/ESST, and/or holiday leave time. <br />Retirement <br />Employees who retire from employment must follow the Resignation policy above and <br />may be eligible for retirement programs as provided by state or federal law. <br />Layoffs <br />The City Council has the authority to lay off any employee when such action becomes <br />necessary as determined in the city's sole discretion. The city will attempt to provide a ten <br />(10) working day notice prior to a layoff. <br />Severance Pay <br />AR regular full-time or regular part-time employee resigning employment may be eligible <br />for a cash payment for a portion of unused sick leave.
