Employment <br />Equal Employment Opportunity <br />The City of Elk River is committed to providing equal opportunity in all areas of <br />employment, including but not limited to recruitment, hiring, demotion, promotion, <br />transfer, selection, lay-off, disciplinary action, termination, compensation, and selection <br />for training. Retaliation <br />against any employee for making a complaint under this policy or assisting with <br />investigations of complaints made under this policy is also strictly prohibited. <br />Any person who feels that s/he has been discriminated against should contact the city <br />administrator or Human Resources. <br />Employment Status Definitions <br />Full -Time - A regular work schedule consisting of 2,080 hours per year. <br />Part -Time - A regular work schedule of less than 2,080 hours per year, generally over the <br />12 months. <br />Orientation Period - First six months of initial employment, following a promotion, <br />reassignment or transfer. <br />Probationary Period - Period of time as defined in a union contract. For paid on -call <br />firefighters, the probationary period is the first twelve (12) months of initial employment. <br />Regular - An employee who has completed his or her Orientation or Probationary Period <br />and works a set schedule. <br />Non -Regular - An employee who has completed his or her Orientation or Probationary <br />Period and works a variety of hours and days, not a set schedule. <br />Seasonal - A part- or full-time position assigned to work part of the year to conduct <br />seasonal work, <br />Page 2187 <br />Page 69 of 447 <br />
