The "old s chool" businesses have kept new businesses from c oming in. We hav e <br />los t a lot of opportunities to Ots ego as a result. They need to make J ackson Street a one way. <br />Mak e parking available on t he other side, tak e down the railing and even out the sidewalks so <br />thos e bus ines s es c an s urvive. We need more shopping and dining downtown, not another <br />Karate s tudio or bank, neither of thos e bring foot traffic into downtown. The s mall town <br />mentality needs to change and those dec ision makers need to see that bringing in more <br />shopping and dining, only benefits them in the long run as well. Liv ing downtown we drive into <br />the nearby neighborhood jus t to avoid the lots on 10 whic h are controlled by the rail sinc e the <br />cycle times can get ex c essiv e at times . The riv ers edge park offers a <br />nic e view, but that's really the only plac e you can enjoy the river. <br />7/30/2024 10:35 AM <br />167 I like that the downt own has a high enough volume of businesses and events (farmers market) <br />to make it fun to walk around. I do think pedest rians are diffic ult to see with cars park ed <br />directly next to crosswalks and there are "dead zones " like by the new bookstore that are <br />harder to get to and feel is olated which mak es them less appealing to walk to (the area around <br />them is only pavement with a road next to it ). I think having refuge is lands would help. May be <br />more green s pace in the median?
